When it comes to
Cuatro and medical concerns all I have to say is "Thank goodness for health insurance!!!" He has always been a really stuffy baby. I thought maybe he got a cold (without the cough) when he was first brought home that he just couldn't kick. I tried everything from the snot sucker to sleeping every night with the humidifier on, to
propping his bed up by his head. Nothing seemed to help,
in fact he was getting worse. Finally about 3 weeks ago we were
referred to an Ear Nose Throat specialist. This is one doctor visit I'm glad Big Boy had to take him to. The doc had to numb
Cuatro's nose and feed a tube up his nose and out his mouth.
Cuatro freaked, as you can imagine!! What we found from this not so pleasant procedure is that he has very large
adenoids. We also found out that he is to young to have them removed. So the doctor put him on a steroid nasal spray and an acid reflux
medicine for six weeks. The reflux med. is to help prevent acid going up into his nasal area, which can cause
irration and the steroid is to help shrink the
adenoids. He seems to be doing well on these
meds. He will go back the first part of March to have another look and possibly schedule
adenoid removal.
Cuatro is also dealing with a slight case of flat head!! I noticed it when he was about 2 1/2
months old. I tried everything to get him to lay on his left side. I e
ven took him to a "witch" doctor! Big Boy keeps wondering when he is going to turn into a toad. We ended up taking him to a plastic surgeon who diagnosed him with
Torticolis. That is a tightening of the muscle in the neck, which causes them to favor on side. He is in the process of getting a helmet to help with
the flat spot which he will get on the 17
th of this
month and we are doing physical therapy to help his neck. On the good note. he had his 6
month appt. today an he is growing like a weed. He is 17 1/2 pounds and is 27 inches long. He is such a happy, bubbly little boy and although he has cost more medically in his short life then any of our other children we love him and are so grateful to have him in our family!
